A judge has determined that former President Donald Trump is qualified to appear on Colorado’s primary election ballot.
A judge in the Denver District Court has made a decision allowing ex-President Donald Trump to be listed on the Colorado primary ballot. The ruling was announced on Friday before 5 p.m. The question at hand was whether he was disqualified from being on the ballot due to a clause in the U.S. Constitution that prohibits individuals who participated in insurrection from holding government positions.
After the ruling, Jena Griswold, the Secretary of State of Colorado, released a statement saying that the Court has deemed Donald Trump eligible to be included on the state’s ballot for the March Presidential Primary. This decision can be challenged. As Secretary of State, Griswold promises to uphold the right of every voter to participate in fair and democratic elections.
This year, advocates have been attempting to eliminate Trump’s name from the voting ballot in Colorado and other states based on Section Three of the 14th Amendment. This section prohibits individuals who took an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and then participated in an act of rebellion against it from holding office. This measure has only been invoked a few times since the aftermath of the Civil War.
