Shane MacGowan, the well-known lead singer of The Pogues and a prominent figure in Celtic folk-punk music, has passed away at 65 years old. His wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, announced the news on Instagram on Thursday, stating that he was a heavy smoker and drinker throughout his career.
Clarke stated that she is unable to articulate her feelings, so she will simply state them. Shane, who will always be the guiding light in her life and the embodiment of her hopes and desires, has passed away to join Jesus, Mary, and his mother Therese in heaven. She feels incredibly fortunate to have known him, loved him, and received boundless and unconditional love from him, as well as to have shared many years of happiness, laughter, and thrilling experiences together.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Shane MacGowan,” stated Clarke, along with MacGowan’s sister Siobhan and father Maurice. They shared that he passed away surrounded by his family in a peaceful manner.

According to RTE, the Irish state broadcaster, MacGowan left a Dublin hospital on November 22nd after being treated for several months and returned home to be with loved ones.
