Maryam Moshiri, a presenter for BBC News, has issued an apology for making a gesture with her middle finger during a live broadcast.
A news anchor for BBC has expressed regret for making an obscene gesture during a live broadcast on Wednesday. Maryam Moshiri, who is the lead presenter for the British network, explained that she was playfully teasing her colleagues when she raised her middle finger as the show began.
A clip of Moshiri making the gesture was shared by several people on social media, with one video getting more than 700,000 views. The clip shows the countdown to the broadcast and Moshiri at the anchor desk. She quickly makes the gesture and then goes into delivering the first headline about former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
On Thursday, Moshiri posted on X that she mimicked a countdown while the director was actually counting down from 10. She displayed 10 fingers and counted down using them. When the countdown reached one, she playfully turned her middle finger around without realizing it would be captured on camera.
When BBC combined its two news channels.
The post she made apologizing on X garnered 2.1 million views in a short period of time and received almost 3,000 comments, with many individuals stating they recognized it was intended as a joke.
