Militia officials reported that a high-ranking commander from an Iran-backed group was killed on Thursday when an airstrike targeted their headquarters for logistical support in central Baghdad.

The Popular Mobilization Force – a coalition of militias that is nominally under the control of the Iraqi military – announced in a statement that its deputy head of operations in Baghdad, Mushtaq Taleb al-Saidi, or “Abu Taqwa,” had been killed “as a result of brutal American aggression.”

The leader of Hamas, Saleh Arouri, was killed.

When asked about Israel’s possible involvement in the Baghdad strike on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Israeli military chose not to respond.
