According to a letter obtained by CBS News, the actions of National Guard soldiers last week were deemed “clearly unconstitutional” by the state.
In a letter to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Jonathan Meyer, the head legal counsel at the Department of Homeland Security, warned that if the Texas National Guard continues to obstruct Border Patrol’s entry to a public park in Eagle Pass, the Biden administration will take action. This may include referring the matter to the Justice Department and considering alternative solutions.
Meyer stated that the recent action taken by Texas to take over control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass has hindered federal efforts to apprehend migrants and provide aid to anyone in need. He referenced the area as a previous location where Border Patrol would conduct inspections and detain migrants.the drownings
On Friday, a woman and two children who were migrants were found near Shelby Park.
