“Currently, the song is being played.”

On Wednesday, Roger Harris, the general manager for South Central Oklahoma Radio Enterprises, which is in charge of KYKC-FM, notified CBS News via email that the song has been added to the country playlist. Additionally, Harris mentioned that the song has also been added to the playlists of two other stations under their management, KCFC-FM and KADA-FM.

The change occurred when a listener asked for “Texas Hold ‘Em,” a tune about the Lone Star State where Beyoncé hails from, but their request was rejected by the radio station.

The Beyhive, Beyoncé’s devoted fan community, has been making allegations of racism on the internet.

the release of her pop album

According to Harris, CBS News was unaware that Beyoncé had dropped two country songs, titled “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” after releasing her pop album. Super Bowl LVIII

Harris clarified that the reply to the fan was a generic response because KYKC does not play her music, but does play music from two other artists. He also mentioned that KYKC does not have the specific song in question.

He stated that due to our station’s small size, we do not receive services from larger labels like bigger stations do.

Following multiple emails, phone calls, and additional inquiries, the station received numerous requests for the song. Harris then made an attempt to locate and listen to the song, ultimately agreeing that it had a distinct “country” sound. In fact, the station went as far as to publish a post about it on their social media platform.

Harris shared with CBS News that they have no objections to Beyonce and they send their well wishes as she ventures into the world of country music. She also referred to Beyonce as an “icon.”

Harris stated that they hope artists are not limited to specific styles or structures and that good music stands on its own regardless of genre.

The controversy surrounding the KYKC event raised questions about whether race played a role in categorizing genres, as seen with the removal of Lil Nas X’s song “Old Town Road” from the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
