The Vatican press office announced that Pope Francis will not be holding his planned audience on Saturday due to a mild flu. No further information was provided.
Francis had a morning meeting planned with the deacons of Rome.
2014 due to health issues
The 87-year-old pope had to cancel certain events in 2014 because of health problems.November due to breathing problems
A previous medical examination showed no issues with Francis’ lungs. In his youth in Argentina, Francis underwent surgery to remove a portion of one of his lungs.
In April of last year, the pope stayed at Gemelli hospital in Rome for three days due to bronchitis, according to the Vatican. He left the hospital after being given antibiotics through an IV.
In July 2021, Francis underwent surgery for a bowel obstruction and stayed at the hospital for 10 days. He returned in June 2023 for a procedure to fix an abdominal hernia and address scarring from previous surgeries.
During a recent TV interview, Francis was asked about his delicate health. In response, he humorously replied with his usual phrase, “I’m still alive, you know.”
