According to family history research, it has been discovered that Taylor Swift and American poet Emily Dickinson share family ties.
On Monday, a genealogy company revealed that Taylor Swift is distantly related to Emily Dickinson, another well-known woman known for her words.
On Ancestry.com, it has been determined that Swift and Dickinson are sixth cousins, with a three-generation difference. They share a common ancestor from 17th century England who was one of the early settlers in Windsor, Connecticut.
The Emily Dickinson Museum replied to the news, suggesting that Taylor Swift start planning her visit.
On December 10th, 2020, Taylor Swift released her ninth album, titled “Evermore.” Emily Dickinson, who was born on December 10th, 1830, shares the same birth date as the album’s release date.
Swift’s upcoming album, which she announced at the 2024 Grammys, is titled “
The Department of Tormented Poets.”
In 2022, the vocalist referenced Dickinson while receiving the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International. During her acceptance speech, she revealed that she categorizes her lyrics based on the writing tool she envisions using while writing the song.
“I write in the quill genre,” Swift explained, “so if you find my lyrics reminiscent of a lace curtain being sewn by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother in the form of a letter, that’s just my style.”
She also has categories for her lyrics such as “fountain pen lyrics” and “glitter gel pen lyrics.”
In 1886, Emily Dickinson passed away after penning close to 1,800 poems throughout her life.
According to a representative from Ancestry, the company utilized their extensive database of online records to uncover a familial link between Swift and Dickinson.
