He then referenced past moments deemed as extraordinary for the State of Union address, likening the current moment to when Franklin Roosevelt gave his speech in January 1941, during a period when Hitler was gaining power in Europe.
He encouraged Congress to resist Russian President Vladimir Putin and condemned the previous leader for acquiescing to him. He brought up the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, stressing the importance of being held accountable.
