Over 60 employees at the Republican National Committee were recently fired following the selection of new leaders, chosen by former President Donald Trump, to lead the organization.
On Monday, notifications were sent to several employees from the RNC’s communications, political, data, and election integrity departments.
Three days after Michael Whatley, the previous leader of the North Carolina Republican Party, and Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of Trump, were both chosen as chair and co-chair of the party, layoffs were announced.
In February, there was a difference of $65 million in cash on hand between the affiliated committees of the DNC, which had $130 million, and the Trump campaign, the RNC, and their supporting political action committees, which had $65 million.
The RNC’s finances have been tight and they will play a crucial role in funding Trump’s campaign for reelection. Based on the latest report from the Federal Election Commission, the RNC only had $8.7 million available in funds.
“Keeping the donors’ funds in mind, it’s important for us to be strategic,” stated Jason Miller, a senior advisor for the Trump campaign. He discussed the RNC’s changes with Fox News on Tuesday, emphasizing the need to ensure that resources are allocated effectively and not wasted on a bloated bureaucracy in Washington. The focus should be on supporting individuals on the ground, rather than those in the office building who may have lost sight of the campaign’s goals.
