According to a news release from U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, members of the task force successfully utilized “manned-unmanned teaming” to identify and attack simulated hostile forces on Oct. 23. The task force launched live munitions from an unmanned vessel to destroy a target boat.
According to a press release, the system achieved accurate hits on every attempt under the supervision of a human operator. The operator was responsible for determining the targets.
The Navy released a video displaying an unmanned boat equipped with two outboard motors quickly maneuvering through the water. The clip also revealed naval operators overseeing the operation from a distance. Once the desired target is identified, a missile is fired from the back of the unmanned boat using a “Lethal Miniature Aerial Missile System.” The footage also captured the moment of impact.
