Annie Ray, a music teacher from Virginia, has been announced as the recipient of the 2024 Grammy Music Educator Award.
Annie Ray, a resident of Annandale, Virginia, who teaches music and leads an orchestra, has been announced as the recipient of the 2024 Music Educator Award. This esteemed recognition is granted by the Recording Academy and the Grammy Museum to acknowledge Ray’s impact on music education.
Ray, a teacher at Annandale High School, motivates her students to aim for greatness and surpass their perceived limitations. She also emphasizes the importance of vulnerability and making mistakes in order to improve.
According to Ray, one must possess a bold and loud attitude and be open to making mistakes in order to improve their skills. In my classroom, students gain confidence by letting go of their inhibitions and taking risks.
At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, she is excited at the possibility of meeting some of her favorite musicians, such as British singer-songwriter Jacob Collier. Ray has a special connection to Collier’s music, especially his song “Little Blue,” which was released before a dear friend of hers passed away.
Ray expressed that the song has greatly influenced and shaped their identity.
The Grammys will air live on CBS and can also be streamed on Paramount+ on Sunday, February 4th, starting at 8 p.m. Eastern Time / 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
