Can you explain what Gilbert syndrome is? Television personality Joey Graziadei explains why his eyes appear yellow.

Joey Graziadei, star of “Bachelor,” addressed speculation about his “yellow eyes” on social media by disclosing his diagnosis of Gilbert syndrome, a liver disease known to alter the skin and eye color. Upon receiving inquiries, he responded on Thursday.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, Gilbert syndrome is a genetic condition that impacts the liver’s capacity to metabolize bilirubin, a byproduct produced from the breakdown of aging red blood cells. This can lead to a buildup of bilirubin in the bloodstream, resulting in jaundice, which is characterized by yellowing of the skin and eyes.

According to Graziadei, he was informed of his Gilbert syndrome diagnosis during his time in high school, but he has not experienced any significant health issues.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, approximately 3% to 7% of the American population is affected by Gilbert’s syndrome. This disorder primarily affects males but can occur in individuals of all ages, races, and ethnicities.

the body’s inability to process it efficiently compared to the normal amount.
In certain situations, symptoms may become more severe. For instance, the body may struggle to process bilirubin effectively, resulting in higher levels than the typical amount.dehydration

Possible rewording: “Factors such as illness, malnutrition, emotional strain, or menstrual cycle can all contribute to this issue.”

Graziadei shares that his own experience is worsened by stress or fatigue, especially when working on a TV show. He mentions the importance of drinking more fluids to counteract these effects.

What are the risk factors and treatment options for Gilbert Syndrome?

Since Gilbert syndrome is an inherited condition

Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent this from happening. However, if both of your parents have the altered gene that leads to the disorder, then you are aware that your risk is higher.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Gilbert syndrome is typically not detected until after puberty or later, even though it is present from birth. This is because the production of bilirubin increases during puberty.

It typically does not pose a significant threat to one’s health and does not need to be treated.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, Gilbert’s syndrome is a minor ailment that does not lead to lasting issues or significant health concerns.

It’s possible that you may be unaware of having Gilbert syndrome, until it is detected incidentally during routine blood tests.

Graziadei was diagnosed as a teenager after undergoing medical tests at the doctor’s office.

In his post, the individual shared that they had undergone a blood test which revealed a significantly elevated bilirubin level. This indicates a potential issue with the liver, prompting them to schedule a liver ultrasound. However, the results of the ultrasound showed no major abnormalities or concerns.hepatitis

However, I was diagnosed with a condition referred to as Gilbert syndrome.

If you are suffering from jaundice, it is recommended by the Mayo Clinic to seek medical attention as there are various potential reasons for it.
