Eric Idle, known for his work in “Monty Python,” revealed that he continues to work at the age of 80 due to financial reasons. He expressed on social media that his income has significantly decreased and stated, “I must work to support myself.”
Actor Idle, known for his roles in “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and as the creator of the successful Broadway production “Spamalot,” shared that there is a common misconception that he and his fellow “Monty Python” cast members are wealthy. However, he clarified that the group’s work has not been financially successful, with “Python” being a “disaster” and “Spamalot” only generating profits two decades ago.
“It is challenging to work at this stage in life,” Idle stated in his post on February 9th.
It’s unclear what Idle’s specific financial circumstances are, but they are likely unique compared to most 80-year-olds. However, he is a typical example of older individuals who are choosing to remain employed beyond the typical retirement age, either by choice or out of necessity due to financial constraints.

“I am surprised that even at this point in my life, our profits from Python continue to dwindle at such a concerning rate,” he stated on X, previously known as Twitter.
Undoubtedly, Idle is not the sole famous person to face financial troubles. While a lavish way of living can result in monetary difficulties, a depletion of income sources can also lead to unstable financial situations, particularly if the celebrity has been relying on a specific amount of money to sustain themselves.
Last year, Idle put his Los Angeles residence on the market for $6.5 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. In 1995, he reportedly purchased the property for $1.5 million. On an unspecified date, Idle announced that he had sold the house, but did not reveal the sale price.
Idle stated that he doesn’t care about being rich and would rather be humorous.
