LaChanze has dedicated a majority of her life to performing on stage, showcasing her talents in productions such as “Once on This Island,” “Ragtime,” “Summer,” and “The Color Purple,” which earned her a prestigious Tony Award. However, throughout her career, she noticed a lack of diversity behind the scenes. As a result, after 40 years as a performer, LaChanze took on a new role as a Broadway producer and achieved further recognition with two more Tonys, one for best musical (“Kimberly Akimbo”) and the other for best revival of a play (“Top Dog/Underdog”). In an interview with correspondent David Pogue, she discusses the progress towards inclusivity that her advocacy organization, Black Theater United, has made.
