The British Academy Film Awards on Sunday had an unexpected guest who received a enthusiastic standing ovation.

David Tennant, the host of the BAFTAs, introduced Fox as a “true legend of cinema” as he presented the award for best film. Despite his Parkinson’s disease, the “Back to the Future” actor was brought to the stage in a wheelchair and received recognition from fellow actors and audience members. The applause increased when Fox stood up to speak into the microphone.

“Tonight, there are five nominees in this category and they all share one thing in common – they are the best at what we do,” stated Fox during the event. “These films have the power to bring us together, regardless of our backgrounds. It’s no wonder they say that movies are magical, as they have the ability to impact our day, our perspective, and even our lives.”
