Over the course of almost a century, it has occurred more than three times.

“I have always dreamt of hosting the Oscars exactly four times,” Kimmel stated in a statement last November in anticipation of being the host.tapped to host
The ceremony to honor achievements is happening once more.

Who will be hosting the Oscars in 2024?

For more than two decades, Kimmel has been the host of the late-night program “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” When he began hosting the Oscars, he incorporated a longstanding joke from his show onto the Oscars stage, the fake feud between himself and Matt Damon.

In 2017, they jokingly stated in an interview with CBS’ “Sunday Morning.”

At the Oscars in the previous year, Damon was introduced as a special guest alongside Ben Affleck as they took the stage to announce the nominees for best original screenplay. However, during Damon’s speaking time, Kimmel instructed the orchestra to play in order to cut him off before the winner was revealed.

getting “interrupted” by “Moonlight”

However, it wasn’t long before Kimmel discovered that the Oscars don’t always go as expected and there are some factors that the host cannot control during the meticulously planned show. The evening concluded with an unexpected “interruption” of “La La Land” by “Moonlight”.mistakenly being announcedBest Picture”

Instead of “Best Picture,” consider using the term “best picture.”Moonlight,” the actual winner.

Due to an error, the creators of “La La Land” took the stage and delivered speeches while officials gathered behind them to determine the cause of the mistake.

In the midst of the chaos, Kimmel was seated next to Damon in the audience, getting ready to wrap up the show. “We were just sitting there, assuming that the host would go on stage and resolve the situation,” Kimmel later recalled. “And then I suddenly realized, oh wait, I’m the host.”

Kimmel concluded the evening by offering a reminder to the viewers that the Oscars is merely a show that features awards, and he playfully vowed to not serve as a host again.

“I take full responsibility for this,” Kimmel confessed to the audience. “I was aware that I could mess up this show, and unfortunately, I did.”

It turned out the envelope that presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway opened onstage was a duplicate one for the best actress award, which went to Emma Stone

“La La Land” was played before announcing the winner for the best picture category.

Who has hosted the Academy Awards previously?

Kimmel’s fourth stint as host is atypical for the show in recent times. During his opening monologue in 2017, he stated, “This is my initial appearance here, and considering how frequently the hosts are cycled through, it may be my final time.”

Whoopi Goldberg is the last person to host the show four times, tying Jack Lemmon and passing three-timers Jerry Lewis and David Niven in 2002. Johnny Carson has hosted five times, and Billy Crystal hosted for the ninth time in 2012.

Bob Hope has held the title for hosting the most Oscars ceremonies, serving as master of ceremonies 19 times. However, it is now uncommon for hosts to return to emcee more than once or twice.

A decade ago, during her final Oscar hosting gig, Ellen DeGeneres broke the record for the highest number of retweets.

However, not all performances of hosts are successful.

In 2011, Anne Hathaway and James Franco co-hosted the ceremony together.widely panned performance

It appears that the intention was to appeal to a younger audience. Hathaway stated in a 2019 interview with “Entertainment Tonight” that the most difficult aspect of hosting is the aftermath of the show and discovering one’s true performance.

According to ET, Hathaway explained that it’s a pleasant experience when everyone tells you things are going well and then…

During a promotional video for the upcoming Sunday night broadcast, a nominee for best supporting actress was featured.America Ferrera described what makes hosting the Oscars such a tightrope walk in a parody of a key speech her character gave in “Barbie.”

She shared with Kimmel that it is an impossible task to boast, never stumble, never make mistakes, and never reveal vulnerability. She also expressed that there is rarely any gratitude and instead, there is always a critique present online. Furthermore, she observed that when things go smoothly, there is silence, but when they go wrong, the blame falls on you.

Amid renewed criticism for previous comments deemed homophobic, the individual will still serve as the emcee for the 2019 ceremony.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ended up going without a host for the first time in 30 years and didn’t have an official host again until 2022, when Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes co-hosted the ceremony. Which Oscars host has received the most positive reception?

Elle recently reviewed past Oscar hosts, noting Billy Crystal’s success in playfully narrating the inner thoughts of celebrities as the camera focused on them in the audience.

The British publication, the Independent, praised Bob Hope for receiving an honorary award from the academy in 1966 while hosting for the 15th time. Upon receiving a gold medal from the academy’s president, Hope jokingly remarked, “You couldn’t even tip me, huh?”

Vogue’s 2020 edition listed Whoopi Goldberg as one of the top seven Oscars hosts. It was pointed out that along with Jack Lemmon, she is one of the only two Academy Award winners to have hosted the show.

According to the magazine, there isn’t anyone who can command a room like Goldberg.

How are the hosts for the Oscars selected?

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang have announced that Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the Oscars for the fourth time. Oscars executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan praised Kimmel, referring to him as “one of the best hosts in Oscars history.”

Kimmel stated to Deadline, a news source for entertainment, that ABC, the longtime broadcaster of the Oscars and the network that airs his late-night show, as well as Kramer, expressed interest in having him host again. Kimmel mentioned that Kramer’s excitement influenced his choice.

“It means a lot to have his desire for me and my wife, Molly (McNearney), to be involved in executive producing. He even expressed interest in Molly taking the lead even if I wasn’t hosting the show. These are significant gestures that hold weight,” Kimmel explained.

Kimmel did not rule out the possibility of returning for a fifth time.

“I do not want to be overly confident by assuming that I will be asked to return every year,” Kimmel stated to Deadline. “However, this year, they have requested my presence, so I am definitely accepting this opportunity.”
