A man armed with an axe was fatally shot by police after taking 15 people hostage on a train in Switzerland.
The police in Switzerland have reported that a 32-year-old man from Iran, who was seeking asylum, was fatally shot by police officers after he took several hostages on a train using an axe and a knife. The incident lasted for several hours and no passengers were harmed. Terrorism is not believed to be a factor, according to authorities.
On Friday, authorities in Vaud, a French-speaking region, reported that a man had taken hostages on a train in Essert-sous-Champvert on Thursday evening. Passengers had alerted the police, who then sealed off the area while the train was stopped.
The individual, fluent in both Farsi and English, insisted that the train operator accompany the 15 individuals being held captive. Authorities communicated with the perpetrator through WhatsApp, utilizing a Farsi interpreter.

Vincent Derouand, a representative for the Vaud prosecutors’ office, stated that an inquiry was in progress to ascertain the man’s reasoning.
Swiss press was informed by police spokesperson Jean-Christophe Sauterel that there is no evidence of a terrorist or jihadist act.
