A United States Navy petty officer stationed in Japan has been accused of espionage.
A member of the U.S. Navy stationed in Japan has been accused by the U.S. military of committing espionage by sharing classified information with a foreign government employee.
According to a charge sheet obtained by CBS News, Bryce Pedicini, a chief petty officer fire controlman, is alleged to have shared documents with an employee of a foreign government at least seven times between November 2022 and February 2023 in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
In May 2023, while in Yokosuka, Japan, he attempted to present photos displaying the screen of a computer linked to the military’s confidential network.
According to the charge sheet, he shared information that he believed could harm the United States and benefit a foreign country. The information was related to national defense, but it is not specified which documents were shared or which nation was involved. Pedicini is also being charged with not reporting a foreign contact and being solicited for classified information by an unauthorized individual.
