Officials reported on Saturday that heavy rains caused flash floods and a landslide on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, resulting in the death of 10 individuals and leaving another 10 missing.
A large amount of mud, rocks, and trees were carried down a mountain on Friday night, causing a river to overflow its banks and causing damage to villages on the mountainside in the Pesisir Selatan district of West Sumatra province. Doni Yusrizal, the head of the local disaster management agency, reported the incident.
Ten people are currently unaccounted for after a tragic event in the village of Koto XI Tarusan. The National Disaster Management Agency’s spokesperson, Yusrizal, reported that seven bodies were found in the heavily affected village and two more were discovered in nearby villages.
At least 11 individuals were killed and numerous others are unaccounted for due to a landslide triggered by heavy rain on an island in Indonesia’s distant Natuna regency. The disaster was announced by officials, who reported that large amounts of mud descended from nearby hills onto homes in Serasan village. So far, rescue teams have retrieved 11 bodies, but it is likely that the number of fatalities will increase, according to National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesperson Abdul Muhari.
