On Friday, President Biden stated that the White House was informed ahead of time about Senator Schumer’s speech. In the speech, the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in the United States, who represents New York, referred to Netanyahu as a “major obstacle to peace” and criticized him for prioritizing his political survival over the best interests of Israel.
“He has been too willing to tolerate the civilian toll in Gaza, which is pushing support for Israel worldwide to historic lows,” Schumer said Thursday in a speech on the Senate floor. “Israel cannot survive if it becomes a pariah.”

According to Kirby, the decision will ultimately be left to the citizens of Israel. He also mentioned that Senator Schumer’s comments have struck a chord with many Americans.
Kirby stated that they will continue to provide support for Israel in their battle against Hamas. The statement also mentions their efforts to reduce harm to civilians and working towards a temporary ceasefire in order to bring back hostages and provide more aid to the people of Gaza.
