Jayo Archer, a 27-year-old motocross champion and participant in the X-Games, tragically passed away while training due to an accident.
Jayden “Jayo” Archer, a freestyle motocross athlete who was the first to successfully execute a triple backflip during a competition, passed away while training in Melbourne, Australia at the age of 27.
On Wednesday, an accident took place, but there is limited information available about it. The police in Victoria state have stated that they will not discuss specific individuals or incidents out of respect for privacy.
Archer had been a part of the Nitro Circus team for over ten years. The crew announced his passing through a post on Instagram.
Nitro Circus stated that Jayo exemplified passion, diligence, and perseverance. He pushed the limits of what could be achieved on a dirt bike, reaching unprecedented heights. He was a positive role model to those around him and, most importantly, a wonderful person and friend to all of us. We will miss you, mate. Rest easy as you ride on.
According to ESPN, Archer challenged the boundaries of the sport.
“This really hit home,” Pastrana told ESPN. “Jayo grew up in a time when action sports was at its biggest, and he always wanted to do the big stuff like the double and the triple, even though there weren’t a lot of places to showcase those bigger tricks. He’d get up every morning at 4 a.m. and go to the gym before work so he could ride his dirt bike.”
According to reports from Australian media, Archer, a winner of two X Games medals, is aiming to complete a never-before-seen quadruple backflip in the upcoming year.
In the past three months, Archer shared a video documenting his experience at the 2023 X Games. He expressed his excitement, stating that it was a dream come true.
“We are deeply saddened by Jayo Archer’s passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents and fiancĂ©e,” Scott Guglielmino, interim chief operating officer X Games, said in a statement to ESPN.
The X Games community will miss Jayo, a dedicated and charismatic FMX rider.
In November 2022, during the Nitro World Games in Brisbane, Australia, Archer became the first rider to successfully perform a triple backflip on a dirt bike in a competition, making him one of only three riders to achieve this feat.
According to CBS Sports, Archer started as a helper in the mechanics field and eventually rose to become one of the top athletes in the sport. His most recent accomplishment was successfully executing a triple backflip at a Nitro Circus Live Show in Jay, Oklahoma in June 2023.
