A sequence of strong earthquakes near the western coast of central Japan resulted in home damage, a fire, tsunami alerts, and power outages on Monday. Residents were advised to move to higher ground for safety.

According to local police, the AFP stated that six individuals lost their lives in the earthquake.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the Noto region on the western side of Japan’s main island, Honshu, experienced a sequence of quick earthquakes. In total, there were approximately 20 quakes, with the first one being a 5.7 magnitude tremor at 4:06 p.m. local time.
