secure the Democratic candidacy

On June 4, during the Democratic primary in New Jersey, Kim, who was initially elected to the House in 2018, posted on social media in response to Murphy’s announcement on Sunday night.

“Kim expressed gratitude and admiration for First Lady Tammy Murphy’s ongoing dedication to our state and nation. It is crucial to pause and recognize that we are all part of a larger collective. Our presence here today is a testament to the remarkable grassroots movement flourishing in New Jersey.”

Although Murphy did not explicitly mention Kim or Menendez in her statement, she did impart a message for the future senator of the state.

Murphy stated that the following senator of New Jersey should prioritize addressing current issues rather than getting caught up in tearing down others and creating division within our party and state. He made this decision because the campaign has never been about him personally. Instead, the best course of action for the benefit of New Jersey is to come together and concentrate on the pressing matters at hand.

The Senate seat for New Jersey, currently held by Democratic Senator Cory Booker, is not open for election in the current year.

After ending her Senate campaign, Murphy plans to dedicate her energy towards securing a reelection for President Biden and helping Democrats in New Jersey succeed, amidst a nationwide competition for control of the Senate.

“According to her, with the presence of Donald Trump and the high stakes for our country, I refuse to use my resources to criticize another fellow Democrat.”

The GOP race for the Senate position is scheduled for June 4th, however, it is uncommon for a Republican to hold one of New Jersey’s Senate seats. The most recent Republican to be chosen for this role was Clifford P. Case, along with two others who served as temporary replacements. Case served multiple terms and was last reelected in 1972.
