Jerusalem — Three Palestinian gunmen opened fire early Thursday morning near a busy checkpoint in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, killing one Israeli and wounding at least eight others, according to Israeli police. The police said two attackers were killed at the scene and the third was later found and arrested.
The hostility between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank has significantly increased due to Hamas’ violent terror attack on Israel on October 7th, which triggered an ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. Hamas has been in control of the Gaza Strip for nearly twenty years.

The proposal was made that authorities should provide Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank with additional weapons. There has been a notable rise in backing for Hamas in the West Bank following the onset of the Gaza conflict, and the destructive war showed no signs of abating on Thursday.

The Gaza Ministry of Health, which is controlled by Hamas, reports that almost 30,000 individuals have lost their lives in the region since the start of the conflict. The ministry does not differentiate between military and civilian fatalities, but the United Nations has stated that a large portion of the deceased are women and children.
In the past 24 hours, the health ministry reported that 97 individuals from nine families were killed and 132 others were injured as a result of Israeli attacks.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has instructed the Israeli military to be ready for a land invasion of the major southern Gaza metropolis of Rafah, situated along the border with Egypt. Approximately 1.5 million Palestinians have crowded into the city and its nearby areas in search of refuge from the ongoing conflict.

The city of Khan Younis, situated just five miles north of Rafah, has been a site of fierce battles for several weeks. This has caused a significant number of civilians to evacuate south towards the Egyptian border, where living conditions are extremely poor and deteriorating rapidly.
On Thursday, the IDF announced that they were still actively fighting and eliminating terrorists and their infrastructure in the Khan Younis region.
