“It is imperative that you do not surrender.” This was the main point that Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny aimed to convey to his followers in the event of his demise. He expressed this sentiment in a 2022 award-winning documentary, directed by Canadian filmmaker Daniel Roher, where Navalny discussed his political beliefs and his survival of an alleged poisoning attempt.
The anti-corruption activist, who is widely seen as President Vladimir Putin’s biggest political rival, stated that their potential assassination would demonstrate our immense strength. They emphasized the importance of using this strength to persist and not surrender, reminding us that we are a powerful force being oppressed by corrupt individuals.

On Friday, it was announced that Navalny had passed away.
After taking a stroll, the individual suddenly became ill and subsequently fell down. The Federal Penitentiary Service Office for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in Russia reported that the medical staff at IK-3 prison in the far northern region were unsuccessful in resuscitating him.
On Friday, Navalny’s team stated they were unable to confirm the news of his death. However, the next day they…confirmed it
Vice President Kamala Harris firmly attributed the responsibility to the government of Putin, stating that he was “killed.”
Harris responds to news of Navalny’s passing, stating that it is another indication of Putin’s ruthless actions.
After Harris, Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of Navalny, gave a speech at the Munich conference.
You have most likely already been made aware of the upsetting news that has been released today. I deliberated for a while on whether I should speak here or immediately go to my children. However, I then considered, “What would Alexey do if he were in my position?” and I am certain he would be present. He would be standing on this platform.
She explicitly stated that she had no faith in any information provided by Russian government officials.
“They always lie. But if this is true, I want Putin, everyone around him, Putin’s friends, his government, to know that they will bear responsibility for what they did to our country, to my family and to my husband, and this day will come very soon,” Navalnaya said. “I want to call on the entire world community, everyone in this room, people all over the world, to unite together and defeat this evil, to defeat the terrifying regime that is now in Russia.”

Russia has been condemned globally for its invasion of neighboring Ukraine, which sparked a grueling war set to enter its third year on Feb. 24. Navalny was a fierce critic of what he called the “stupid war” launched by “madman” Putin.
Unfortunately, Putin and his associates, who have been in power for many years, have taken advantage of the ongoing war to justify implementing strict new legislation in the name of protecting the nation. This has resulted in a significant limitation of freedom of expression. Recent laws have granted the government the authority to imprison individuals who speak out against Russia’s military or its involvement in Ukraine.
This is a larger effort to suppress criticism that intensified after widespread demonstrations in support of Navalny occurred throughout the country after his 2021 detention. The situation escalated even further during the conflict in Ukraine.
Numerous politicians, dissenting activists, journalists, and members of civil society – including several of Navalny’s closest advisors – are currently incarcerated or have sought refuge outside of Russia.
Public demonstrations on the streets of Russia are considered unlawful unless authorized beforehand, a permission that is not typically granted to those who are known to be against the government.
