The top cybersecurity official at the National Security Council discusses institutions that are at risk for ransomware attacks on “The Takeout.”

Ann Neuberger, the deputy national security adviser for cyber and emerging technology, stated that hospitals and schools are particularly susceptible to ransomware attacks, often orchestrated by Russian cyber criminals.

Currently, American authorities are quickly working to enhance cybersecurity measures in hospitals and public schools. They are utilizing artificial intelligence technology to expedite the identification of hacking efforts and pinpoint the origin of ransomware assaults. According to Neuberger, who spoke with CBS’ chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett on this week’s episode of “The Takeout” podcast, these tools have proven to be effective.

According to Neuberger, there has been a rise in cyber criminals, with 75% of them located in Russia, specifically targeting hospitals. This results in the encryption of hospital systems in order to extort ransom payments. Similarly, schools have also been targeted due to the increasing reliance on online learning. This puts sensitive information, such as class records and records about children, at risk. Criminals have been observed targeting school systems as well.
