According to an announcement on Monday, Airbnb will be prohibiting the use of indoor security cameras in all of its listings globally. Hosts are required to comply with this rule by the end of next month.
Earlier, the company permitted individuals to rent out their accommodations with the use of indoor security cameras in shared spaces, as long as they were clearly stated on the rental page and visibly placed. These cameras were not permitted in private areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms. However, they are now forbidden in all Airbnb listings, regardless of their stated purpose or visibility.
“We collaborated with our guests, hosts, and privacy professionals when making these adjustments,” stated Juniper Downs, the head of community policy and partnerships at Airbnb, in the announcement of the policy.
