Republican Representative George Santos, who has been facing challenges, declared on Thursday that he will not seek reelection in 2024. This decision came right after the House Ethics Committee made a statement.blistering report

Santos, who previously stated that he would seek reelection regardless of being kicked out of Congress, has now changed his stance.
Santos released a statement on “X” expressing determination to fight for his rights and defend his reputation despite facing challenges. He acknowledged his humanity and imperfections, but refused to be attacked by others who are also flawed. Santos will continue to serve his constituents until he is able to do so. However, he will not run for re-election in 2024 as he believes his family deserves to be free from constant media scrutiny.
The investigative subcommittee has announced its findings that Santos was aware of and deliberately involved in the submission of incomplete or incorrect reports by his campaign committee. They also found evidence of fraudulent behavior and the use of campaign funds for personal purposes. At 11:01 a.m., Santos made an announcement that he will not be seeking reelection.
In a statement to CBS News, Joseph Murray, the lawyer for Santos, strongly criticized the report released by the committee.
He stated that it was a repulsive attack that highlights the decline of our federal government and the urgent need for an Article V constitutional convention among the people. He added that they should all feel ashamed of their actions.

The individual is accused of participating in a plot, making untrue statements, committing wire fraud, altering records, using someone else’s identity without permission, and engaging in credit card fraud. They have entered a plea of not guilty for all of the accusations and maintain their belief in their innocence.
Santos represents areas in both Queens and Long Island.
