According to Finneas, collaborating with his sister Billie Eilish involves being completely open and exposed.
Finneas O’Connell and his younger sister, Billie Eilish, have become household names. Recently, their collaborative work on the hit song “What Was I Made For?” from the “Barbie” movie has earned them nominations for “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year” at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
The pair’s compact recording space located in the lower level of Finneas’ residence in Los Angeles is where they have created a number of their collaborative tracks, including “Ocean Eyes,” which gained widespread attention in 2015 and kickstarted their success.
The majority of their collaborations, such as “What Was I Made For?”, are often created spontaneously while they are both in front of a piano.
Finneas described the experience of their music coexisting with the movie scene as “extremely impactful” at the Golden Globe Awards.

Not all tasks were as simple as they seemed.
According to Finneas, he and his partner encountered difficulties when composing the theme for the James Bond movie “No Time To Die.” Collaborating with renowned composer Hans Zimmer in London, they felt a great weight to live up to the reputation of previous James Bond themes.
Finneas explained that James Bond has a distinct set of values and a recognizable trademark. If someone fails in their mission, they have truly missed the mark.
The outcome was a musical piece that not only received praise from critics, but also garnered a Golden Globe, a Grammy, and an Oscar for the performers.
The beginning of their journey was during the time when Finneas was 18 and Eilish was 13, as they were both raised in a family with a strong musical background. Their mother, Maggie Baird, was also involved in songwriting.
At the young age of 26, Finneas has already won eight Grammy awards. He recently released his first solo album, “Optimist,” in 2021 and shows no signs of slowing down. He is currently composing the score for Alfonso Cuarón’s new series “Disclaimer” on Apple TV+ and collaborating with Eilish on their third project.
“According to Finneas, I believe that I have developed a strong sense of trust and vulnerability with Billie. While she may still have some reservations about sharing certain things with me, she is comfortable confiding in me.”
