22-year-old Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi, who gained notoriety for her role in protesting against Israel, was arrested by Israeli authorities on charges of “inciting violence.”
The Israel Defense Forces reported that they detained Ahed Tamimi, a well-known 22-year-old activist from Palestine, on Monday while conducting a search in the town of Nabi Saleh in the West Bank. According to the IDF, Tamimi is accused of promoting violence and advocating for terrorist actions, and has been handed over to Israeli security forces for additional interrogation.
An official from the Israeli military shared with CBS News a screenshot they claim is an instance of Ahed Tamimi inciting violence through her social media account.
The content, possibly from an Instagram story shared by the user “ahed_tamimi15,” displays words in both Hebrew and Arabic making violent threats towards Israeli settlers and mentioning Hitler.
In 2017, she was taken into custody for physically attacking two Israeli soldiers who had entered her family’s property and refusing to depart.

“We are hopeful that the upcoming generation will surpass us in strength and be able to carry on the fight against the [Israeli] occupation with even more determination and resistance,” said Bassem Tamimi, a longstanding Palestinian activist and father of Ahed, upon her detention in 2017.
