People magazine has chosen Patrick Dempsey as their “Sexiest Man Alive” for this year.
The selection was announced during “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday night as Kimmel introduced the “Grey’s Anatomy” star on the show. Dempsey took the crown from “Captain America” actor Chris Evans after beating finalists Pedro Pascal, Timothée Chalamet, Usher, Jamie Foxx, Jason Kelce and Lenny Kravitz.
Dempsey expressed his happiness that this is occurring in his current stage of life during an interview with People. He stated that it is gratifying to receive recognition, although it does give his ego a boost. However, he sees it as an opportunity to utilize the attention for a positive impact.
The actor and professional race car driver, who is 57 years old, has been recognized as one of the most attractive men in the world. This is partly due to his role as Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on the popular medical drama series. However, when he was informed of this honor, he jokingly told the magazine that he has always been the second choice.
