What was the process behind The Beatles creating a new song?
Using artificial intelligence, the song “Now and Then” was created by first isolating Lennon’s vocals and then adding in the musical contributions from McCartney and Starr in the studio. A brief documentary about the production of the song was shared on The Beatles’ official YouTube channel on Wednesday, with a music video set to be released approximately 24 hours after the song’s debut.
“The eventful journey of ‘Now and Then’ culminated over a span of five decades, resulting from ongoing conversations and collaborations between the four members of The Beatles. As described in the YouTube summary of the short film, the highly anticipated John Lennon demo was first revisited by Paul, George, and Ringo in February 1995 as part of The Beatles Anthology project. However, due to the complex technological obstacles presented by working with John’s recorded vocals from the 1970s, the project was left unfinished.”
“For many years, it seemed as though the song would never reach completion,” the passage states. “However, in 2022, a stroke of luck occurred.”
In the film, both McCartney and Starr were amazed by the clarity of Lennon’s vocals in the newly released version of “Now and Then.”
McCartney reflected, “The rush of memories returned to me. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had those individuals in my life. The fact that I will continue to collaborate on Beatles music in 2023 is truly amazing.”
Starr remarked, “It was the most we’ll ever experience having him [Lennon] with us in the room… Incredible.”
Which members of The Beatles are currently living?
Two out of the four original members of The Beatles are currently living: McCartney, who was the bassist and also contributed to writing songs and singing lead vocals along with Lennon, and Starr, the drummer of the band. At 81 and 83 years old, respectively, McCartney and Starr have both pursued solo music careers and have also worked with other artists over the years.
John Lennon, the co-writer and lead singer of The Beatles, passed away in 1980 at the age of 40. He was tragically shot multiple times by Mark David Chapman as he entered his apartment building in New York City on December 8th of that year. The death of Lennon is still widely regarded as one of the most notorious celebrity murders in history.
Harrison, the first lead guitarist of The Beatles, passed away on November 29, 2001, at the age of 58 after a long battle with cancer.
