A 70-year-old woman in Uganda has given birth to twins, according to a doctor.
On Thursday, a doctor announced that a 70-year-old woman from Uganda has recently delivered twins. The mother expressed her gratitude for the “miracle” of her pregnancy.
Safina Namukwaya expressed her happiness upon the birth of her twins, who were delivered at a medical facility in the capital city of Kampala following her fertility treatment.
According to Dr. Edward Tamale Sali, a specialist in fertility at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre, the mother utilized a donated egg and her partner’s sperm in the process of in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

“This is extraordinary achievement, delivering twins to Africa’s oldest mother at 70 years,” Sali told AFP.
On its Facebook page, the company shared a video featuring an interview with the mother and doctor.
Sali reported that the mother and her twin babies, a boy and a girl, were currently under the care of the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre, which he had established. He also mentioned that they were both in good condition.
Namukwaya, who resides in the rural area of Masaka approximately 75 miles west of Kampala, stated that she cannot reword the feeling of joy she is experiencing at this moment.
She shared with AFP over the phone that at the age of 70, when she is typically considered frail and unable to conceive or care for a child, she experienced the miraculous birth of twins.
Namukwaya said she previously gave birth to a girl in 2020, after being mocked as a “cursed woman” who had previously failed to produce a child. She said her first husband died in 1992, leaving her without children, and she met her current partner in 1996.
However, Namukwaya expressed disappointment that her significant other has yet to visit her since she arrived at the hospital for the birth.
She mentioned that perhaps he is not pleased with the fact that I gave birth to twins, as men tend to prefer not knowing if a woman is pregnant with more than one child in order to avoid potential responsibilities that come with it.
According to the BBC, a 73-year-old woman from India successfully gave birth to twins in 2019 through IVF treatment.
