Demonstrators supporting Palestine cause delay in departure of military supply vessel from Port of Oakland.
Demonstrators calling for an end to the Israeli conflict in Gaza obstructed a U.S. military ship’s departure from the Port of Oakland on Friday by attaching themselves to the vessel, causing a delay of several hours.
The demonstrators have obstructed the access to Berth 20, where the vessel Cape Orlando, carrying weapons and military supplies from Tacoma, Washington, is docked. According to the protest groups, the ship is headed to Israel.
The Arab Resource Organizing Center, based in San Francisco, coordinated the protest. Police were present at the demonstration, which seemed to consist of approximately 200 individuals. Many participants were holding Palestinian flags and carrying signs urging for a cessation of U.S. military support to Israel.
The demonstration commenced at 6:45 in the morning and has not caused any interruptions to other tasks involving cargo handling, as stated by a representative from the Port of Oakland.
