This week, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the previous Speaker of the House, declared that he will not run for re-election.

He is stepping down from Congress at the end of the year.

During his upcoming television interview, which will air this weekend, McCarthy will discuss his recent announcement to leave Congress, his interactions with former President Donald Trump, and the potential paths for himself and the Republican Party. He will be speaking with CBS News’ chief election & campaign correspondent Robert Costa.

McCarthy showed his backing for Trump, the current leader in the Republican presidential competition.

Amidst legal obstacles, such as being subject to both federal and state criminal accusations. . 

The interview will air on “CBS News Sunday Morning” on December 10 and will also be available for streaming on Paramount+. (A preview clip is available for viewing in the above video player.)
