Devon and Cornwall police in the UK are seeking help from the public regarding the recent discovery of seven deceased Aldabra giant tortoises in an English forest. These tortoises are considered vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Police reported discovering two turtle carcasses in Ashclyst Forest on January 8th, followed by an additional five in the same area on January 12th.

“We are asking for the community’s help in gathering information about this discovery and determining the individuals involved. If anyone has any knowledge, we urge them to reach out,” stated Police Inspector Mark Arthurs. “Additionally, we are interested in hearing from individuals who have recently acquired a giant tortoise in the vicinity or who may have noticed a decrease in the number of tortoises owned by someone known for having a large collection.”
