The government of Russia claims that Ukraine is responsible for downing a plane containing captured Ukrainian soldiers in the Belgorod region.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia alleged that Ukraine was responsible for the downing of a military plane transporting prisoners of war in the western Belgorod region, resulting in the death of all passengers. The validity of this claim cannot be verified, but the ministry stated that Russian radar detected the firing of two Ukrainian missiles that hit the aircraft.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War in Ukraine has cautioned against spreading unconfirmed data, stating that the enemy is conducting deliberate misinformation campaigns to disrupt Ukrainian society.
On Wednesday, the Ukrainian military released a statement acknowledging heightened shelling in the region, which they attributed to an increase in Russian military transport planes heading to the Belgorod airfield. They stated that these planes were connected to logistical efforts for Russia’s ongoing missile attacks in eastern Ukraine, without directly mentioning the plane crash in Belgorod.
The Ukrainian military said it would “continue to take measures to destroy means of delivery, [and to] control the airspace to destroy the terrorist threat” presented by Russia.
The AP reports that Russia is currently invading Ukraine.
