The United States government advises spring breakers traveling to Mexico to “take extra care and caution.”
The United States issued a warning on Thursday advising American citizens who are planning to travel to Mexico for spring break to be more vigilant.
The U.S. Embassy in Mexico released a statement warning that crime, even violent crime, can happen anywhere in the country, even in popular tourist areas. They suggest that travelers stay alert and leave any potentially risky situations immediately.
The warning advised that tourists should exercise extra care while in the downtown areas of popular spring break spots such as Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum, especially during nighttime hours.
Two individuals, one female from America and one male from Belize, were fatally shot in an apparent altercation between drug dealers at a beach club in the popular tourist destination of Tulum.
