OpenAI envisions a future where a humanoid robot is infused with the artificial intelligence capabilities of silicon.

The creator of ChatGPT, the revolutionary AI system causing a stir globally, has stated they are putting resources into Figure, a California-based company focused on producing workplace robots. OpenAI and Figure will collaborate in developing AI technology to assist robots in comprehending and analyzing language, according to a joint news release.

In 2022, Figure is creating robots called “general purpose humanoids” that can work alongside humans and perform hazardous or unpleasant tasks. The company’s website states that there are more than 10 million unsafe or undesirable jobs in the United States, and as the population ages, it will become even harder for businesses to recruit and expand their workforce.

In January, it was revealed that a contract was signed between the company and BMW to implement robotic technology at various BMW production sites, including the one in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Brett Adcock, the founder and CEO of startup Figure, stated their goal to introduce humanoid robots into commercial use as soon as possible. This funding round and collaboration with OpenAI and Microsoft will help them achieve their goal of bringing embodied AI into the world and creating a positive impact on humanity.

Here’s a glimpse of the capabilities of Figure’s robot.
