The United States reports that one of its warships destroyed 14 unmanned aerial vehicles in the Red Sea that were launched from Yemen.
The U.S. Central Command reported that an American battleship successfully intercepted and destroyed over twelve unmanned aerial vehicles in the Red Sea. These drones were launched from regions in Yemen controlled by the Houthi group.
The social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, reported that the USS CARNEY, a guided missile destroyer of the Arleigh Burke class, effectively intercepted 14 unmanned aerial systems in the Red Sea. The drones were launched in a coordinated attack from areas controlled by the Houthi group in Yemen.
According to the statement, the flying machines were deemed to be unidirectional attack drones and were successfully destroyed without causing any harm to nearby ships or resulting in any injuries.
Maersk has instructed ships heading towards the Red Sea to stop their journeys due to recent missile attacks by Houthi rebels on commercial vessels in the region.
The Mediterranean Shipping Company released a statement on Saturday stating that their ships will not be passing through the Suez Canal in either direction. This decision was made after one of their container ships was attacked while transiting the Red Sea on Friday. The container ship sustained minor fire damage and has been removed from service.
The MSC announced that their shipping services will now pass through the Cape of Good Hope.
The recent assaults signify a notable increase in the danger posed to ships in the region.
