Everyone has to begin somewhere. The 19-year-old formerly known as Barbara Joan Streisand’s starting point was at Bon Soir, a cozy nightclub located in New York’s Greenwich Village. Her shows there signaled the emergence of a significant new artist. In an interview with writer James Gavin and critics Wesley Morris and Stephen Holden, correspondent Mo Rocca delves into Barbra Streisand’s debut and the role that New York’s cabarets played in launching some of the most influential figures in American pop culture during the 1950s and ’60s.
