Nikki Haley, the ex-United Nations representative and former governor of South Carolina, officially submitted her paperwork on Monday morning to be included on the state’s 2024 presidential primary ballot. This comes after a significant change over the weekend, with the departure of

Mike Pence, the former Vice President from the field.

In the state House, where she previously served as governor, Haley completed the necessary paperwork before the primary filing deadline on Tuesday. She excitedly declared “let’s do this” to a group of supporters holding signs that read “Pick Nikki,” “Nikki Haley for president,” and “Women for Nikki.”

Standing next to her was Republican Congressman Ralph Norman and two well-known South Carolina Republicans: Senator Tom Davis and Representative Nathan Ballentine.

The third presidential debate, scheduled for Nov. 8 in Miami, has confirmed that Haley is among four Republican candidates who have met the qualifications to participate.

Haley performed well in the first two debates and her performance in the third one could be crucial in maintaining her momentum leading into the early primary elections next year.

According to a recent survey from the Des Moines Register/NBC News, Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are tied for second place in Iowa. The poll revealed that 16% of potential Republican caucus attendees selected Haley or DeSantis as their preferred presidential candidate.

Haley’s score increased by 10 points and DeSantis’ score decreased by 3 points since August.

However, both contenders are currently behind Trump, who gained the support of 43% of those surveyed. The Iowa caucuses, which mark the initial voting event for the 2024 election, are scheduled for Jan. 15, one month before the primary in South Carolina on Feb. 24.

The most recent survey on Monday demonstrates Haley’s increasing support and was highlighted during her filing in South Carolina. She stated to reporters, “I have always been considered the less likely candidate. I thrive in that role.” Haley is determined to work harder and smarter than any other candidate, believing that persistence is key to success.

However, she also recognized Trump’s consistent advantage. “There is one more individual I must surpass, and I am committed to achieving it,” Haley stated. “We will accomplish it.”

Haley’s recent increase in popularity coincides with Vice President Mike Pence’s decision to suspend his campaign over the weekend. This decision was made due to his low rankings in polls and fundraising.

Haley was questioned in South Carolina about the potential of Pence being chosen as her running mate.

“I am currently not giving much attention to potential running mates,” Haley responded. “My main focus is on campaigning in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. However, I believe we have a highly skilled and impressive group of Republicans who would make excellent choices for vice president.”
