The legal team of former President Donald Trump had their request to subpoena members of the House Jan. 6 select committee and others for evidence in his upcoming trial denied by the courts.
On Monday, Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected a request from Trump’s legal team to approve subpoenas for records from various entities, including the National Archives and Records Administration, the House Administration Committee, and Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chairs the House Jan. 6 panel. Trump’s lawyers claimed that there were important records missing from the disbanded committee that they needed for their pretrial preparations, but committee members have stated that all necessary materials are accounted for.
The lawyers representing Trump have not yet indicated if they plan to challenge Chutkan’s ruling.
He has entered a plea of not guilty to four felony charges which allege that he attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Trump’s attorneys had asked Chutkan to recuse herself
She mentioned the case, but stated that she would not.
