The United Nations reports that approximately 50 million tons of electronic waste, also known as e-waste, are generated annually. Sadly, most of this waste ends up in landfills in developing countries, where individuals scavenge for valuable metals. Journalist Seth Doane explores the negative consequences when consumer goods reach their disposal stage and investigates initiatives to increase proper recycling and prolong the usability of items such as smartphones.
